ran my truck out of diesel tonite. :doah: looks like i'll be spending a couple hours down town early tomorrow morning getting her running again. :doah:

put about 5 gallons in the tank and crack the bleeder on the filter and crank it over a few times til fuel comes out the bleeder, close it off and it should start and run a little rough after a couple times of it starting and dieing, holding the throttle wide open when doing this will help the air come out.....shouldnt take more then 20 minutes.....

yeah, i've had to do this quite frequently. one day i'll actually fix the fuel gauge. :doah:

This is why I don't let it get spooky low.

Then again...knock on wood...both of my gauges actually work fairly decent!

well common then, you should be a pro at repriming the system ;)

when i replaced the lift pump on the truck the other day, i used a beer bottle with diesel in it, and a small funnel to fill the fuel line from the filter down to the lift pump, there was already fuel in the filter. I cranked it, and the thing fired right up, didnt even have to bleed air from the system. Worked pretty good for me, and i actually removed and replaced a big peice of the fuel system, and the fuel line to the tank had been open for a few days.. but i think siphon action kept fuel in the line cuz it was still dripping and leaking a puddle of diesel under the truck. So that probably helped with the restart.

although... if your fuel guage dosnt work, and you know your trucks mileage, you can use your odometer as an impromptu fuel guage.... which im guessing youve been doing if its been a year since you ran out of fuel. Me, i like to fuel up at half tanks anyway, just in case isht.

well, got that sucker running in about an hour today. something of a record for me! :) i don't keep much fuel in my truck because I don't regularly drive (bicycle is the only way to DD! :D ) and I figure there's no reason to have a bunch of money sitting in the fuel tank. I knew I should've put fuel in it before I drove it yesterday, but didn't and got what I was askin for! :haha:

I try to keep the tank full - less air space for moisture to form in.

Then again I drive even Big Ugly once a week. The fuel doesn't sit for too long.

yeah, im a fan of biking to work and around town whenever possible, but at the same time, as my poor 1989 IROC can attest, nothing will kill a car faster than sitting still not moving or beings started. I try to drive, or at least start all my cars once a week to get the blood pumping.

the truck gets driven at least 2 times a month. Right now it's getting driven a bit more frequently because our car is being torn apart so I can paint it. :)
