So my new (to me) Grand Cherokee's transmission went out.... I have been quoted between 1800 and 2500 to repair it....the wife does not want a used one from a wrecking yard.... should i even fix it ?

Its a 96 with a 44re, I looked in to rebuilding it my self but with the od planiteres I need a press or something with 1800 lbs of pressure and living in an apartment doing something that big is out of the question.

get rid of it and cut your losses. I havent heard of a good one of those yet:dunno:

if you do get it rebilt invest in a cooler and a trans temp gauge that model is even more temp sensitive than a 700R4 from what i have read

I had a 96 v8 grand also. About 2 months after i got it, the tranny went. Got it rebuilt for around 1400 with a 1 year warranty. Shortly after the warranty was up, the tranny went again. This was a stock truck. My wifes DD. Not off roaded or abused. No reason the tranny should have went. We got rid of it instead of fixing a second time.

If you really like the truck, get it rebuilt and hope for the best, but if you're not attached to it prob better to move on.

just my .02 and also, Hi everyone! this is my first post!
