I really thought a search would have yielded this but... On my front dana 44 Ive got 10bolt hubs/spindles from an 87 K10. I want to convert my 8.8 rear to a full floater using a dana 44/10bolt spindle, hub, and brakes but I want my wheel bearings to be the same front and back. I also need to know what year axles I should be shopping for donor parts.

Was there a set guideline as to what was larger bearing sets and what was the smaller ones? Also is there any source for re-popd stuff?

Don't quote me but dont very earlier years have bigger bearings for the 44? I know i measured some hub races front dana 44 i got from a member here and there same as my 10 bolt races (nice since new bearings and spindles). Try looking on RockAuto know alot of times they give you some of measurements needed for research.

You can play the game Warn did with their full float kit for the ten bolt. I have one. They cut the end of the 19 bolt flush to remove the bearing retainer. They used their verion of a Dana 60 spindle that bolted with 4 bolts to the 20 bolt. It had an o ring seal to the 10 bolt. they supplied the the new stub axles, spindle, hub, bearing and a lockable locking hub. You could have had a slug too.

I already know what to do. Going to cut a ring in the plasma table 1in thick to the OD of the spindle, throw it in the lathe and cut a step in it to grab the step behind the flange of then spindle, transfer punch the spindle pattern over to the ring, drill it out to be bolted. I'll use the same universal seals I did in my 10 bolt that go in the tubes down by the pumpkin. Get some 30 or 19 spline drive flanges and call up Dutchman to have shafts made with splines on both sides and c-clip grooves to retain the shaft around the drive flange.

got some 10 bolt races if you want me to measure them monday at work

The early 44's had smaller bearings. I want to say the big ones came around '77, but I'm not really sure. All of the 10-bolt fronts used the larger bearings, like what you have now.

Ah ok. Thats something good to go off of. So if I find a ten bolt donor it will be big bearing for sure then :waytogo:

Also, it seems the bearing/spindle change happened at the same time the passenger flat top went away.

It seems by '77, they were all the larger bearings at that point. Whether or not it was the new 10 bolt or the D44, it was the changeover year remember. So anything '77 or later will match what you have now... unless of course it's a cobbled together truck, then who knows what bearings it might have.
