Dana 44 Axle

I have a mid 70s 3/4 ton Dana 44 that I have to replace the longside (driver's side) axle on. I also have a mid 80s 1/2 ton 10 bolt front. Question is: Can I use the axle out of the 10 bolt to replace the one in my Dana 44. A friend of mine said it would work but sometimes he's not always right. I know the Dana is 30 spline, are 10 bolts 30 spline as well?

That mid 80's 10 bolt will be 27 spline and will not match up.

The 10 bolt shafts up to 88 were 28 spline and then 89-91 were 30 spline, but the shafts are not the same length so you can't use them regardless.
D44 takes D44 shafts and 10b take 10b.
D44 shafts are not that hard to come by.
If you were close I have some here but I am sure you can find some local

yeah, there is a couple places I'll check tomorrow, but I appreciate the offer. The Dana 44 I just bought had a problem and after disassembling it I realized the drivers side axle was 27 or 28 spline. So that's why I gotta find another axle now

Dana 44's should be either 19 or 30 spline.

The outer shaft is 19 spline and the inner is 30 spline on a D44

Hmmm, I was thinking that early dana 44's had 19 spline inners but I can't find that info.

I was probably thinking of early dana 60's.

There are 19 spline inner D60 rears.
I think there are even some Early Jeep D44 with 19 spline inners.
No GM D44 came with 19 spline inners that I know of.

I was thinking that the old Jeep dana 44's came with 19 spline inner shafts . Not really relevant to the discussion at hand, but its good information to include.

Simply saying that all dana 44 axles are 30 spline (even though all of the GM ones were, and we are on a GM site) is incorrect and leads to people making false assumptions.
