how can i tell the difference probably a stupid question but i thought i had a dana 44 but was told by somone else it was a 60 . I cant find any markings and tried looking it up online but all i can find is info saying they are similiar in apperance except ring gears and i aint ready to open it up yet do to little time and worried about the what i will find in it cuz i got it from a ran down donor one ton dually

a GM 60 will have 60F in the lower webbing on the drivers side front. It will have kingpins, and 1480 ujoints at the knuckle.

also on the passenger side of the axle there is 1 U-bolt and 2 actual stud nuts that thread into the diff casting holding the springs onto the axle. a 44 has 2 U-bolts holding the springs to the axle(if that makes any sense)

If its a 60 it will be here:

Dodge D44's also use studs just like Chevy D60's, something to watch out for.

The kingpin knuckles are the easiest giveaway.
