So here it goes dana 44s suck! I have had nothin but problems with it since i built it. Amongst tha u joints breaking to the locker and now axle shafts and steering knuckle. Ive broken every thing on this axle except the housing!

Now what leads me to writing this thread is curiousity pertaining to whether or not to start all over and spend the money and build a d60, or chromeoly the shafts of the d44 and hope the knuckles dont break again.

If I could get some info on the best d60 to purchase for my truck I.E. year make and model.

I also have to keep in mind that my d44 has a brand new detroit, crossover kit, premium hubs, solid diff cover,Hd tie rod etc.

Oh yeah heres some pics to make it a little more interesting..........

Sell off all the bling D44 parts and start savin for a 60. I think the more desired ones are 84ish and up without the neckdown inner shafts. If you are going to upgrade them then just get any D60:wink1:

Agreed... sell off that d44 to a guy running smaller tires and jump up to a d60...

How do you like the ingenuity to get the truck on the trailer? I just took my spare 39 and slid the tie rod into the housing just to roll it around. frikin genious!

Speaks wonders for the Tie Rod!!

I didn't know what that picture was of when I first replied.:D

Will I have to modify the 60 to bolt in?

its a bolt in affair. you will need to get a new draglink and steering arm for the axle. new U-bolts and probably brakelines. I had a 44 that had a larger banjo bolt on the calipers then what was on the 60.

sell the 44 parts, you won't get all your money back but the stuff is still worth a good bit.

You are running 38.5's? 38's are a little beyond a D44's limits. Using chrome-molly shafts will only transfer the weakest point and leave you stranded with a different break.

Go for the D60. The D44 has proven itself too weak.

You'll probably get more money parting the locker out and other parts separately from the axle itself.

I'm running chrome-molly shafts on a 10 bolt with a lockrite, but I'm only running 33's.

I hear this kind of carnage happens when the u-joint pops, and I've destroyed quite a few Dana 44 u-joints, but I never popped the ball joints doings so.
It must be a slow going rock crawler thing.

yup, basically if it came with dually rear wheels then the front had dually rims on it too and it is wider, well the hubs are, so you only needed one spare. the SRW only had one rear wheel and the front ends look like just like the one you have now but its a 60.

nice, all you have to do is go 88mph and go back in time! i dont think you tire should be like that though, try and keep them horizontal only when flying.:D

Nope! he has no Flux capacitor, plus Dana 44's don't respond well to time travel...they end up like the one in the first post of this thread.:D

Dana 60

that was a hell of a guess! Turns out I missed out on the sale because of work:mad:. Oh well. are there any weak links to a 60 that I should attend to immedietly? Ill be runnin a detroit and 39.5s with crossover.

I would upgrade the stub shafts to 35-spline and run some warn premium hubs or drive flanges, then call it a day

How much for what's left of your locker for the 44?

I am actually able to exchange the locker for a d60 locker, I have a few other parts for sale in the rocky mountain buy-sell-trade if interested.
