Hello

Steve here in Dallas,TX

I'm hoping someone can help me with some advice.

I have a DANA 44 6 lug axle up front with 2.73 gears and would like to purchase a set of 3.42 gears for the front so they will match the rear gears which are 3.42 gears.

I spoke with Dennys Drive shafts and they said that after making a few calls and checking around that 3.42 gears are no longer made or available for the DANA 44 front axle.

My question is, Does the DANA 44 have a 8.5 inch ring gear standard rotation?

Does anyone know of anywhere to get DANA 44 3.42 gears for a front dana 44 axle?

Thanks guys

I really appreciate that.
I just wonder why Dennys drive shafts told me different.

Guess I will be ordering a 8.5 gear set from summit in that case.

Here is what Dennys drive shaft wrote me today after I sent them photos of the numbers on the ring gear and photos of the diff cover.

"After a few phone calls and a web search it looks like 3.42 is no longer
available for the Dana 44. Sorry we could not find what you need.

Thank You

So I followed the link above and looked on the Summit website and did not see any 3.42 gears sets for a Dana 44. Also looks like you posted the same question on Pirate4x4.....or somebody else post an identical question.

What vehicle is it? On Pirate4x4 it states an '89 Suburban, so if it does have a D44 front axle it has been swapped in at some point in time as the original axle would have been a 10-bolt. The other thing is I didn't think D44's had a 2.73 ratio available, but 10-bolts did.

Yeah, I do not see any available ratio in a 3.42 for a Dana 44. GM 10 bolt only.

Run a 3.54. Only 4% difference. Within 5 to 10% your usually good.

Also pretty easy to switch to a 10 bolt

Yes
I have asked this question on other websites.
Good EYE

As posted above there shouldn't be any issue running a 3.54 gear set in the front. However, make sure you are certain what front axle you actually have because it being an '89 Suburban with 2.73 gears it really points to being a 10-bolt.
