Dana 44 help please

Hi, the front end in my 1980 k20 is totally fubard. I have anther dana 44 to put into it but the one the is still in the truck in an eight lug and the one i want to put in is only six. Can i swap the hubs? Also, I want to match the gears to the rear end. The rear end is 4:56 and the new front end is only 3:73. So what do i need to buy? A new gear set? any help would be great. your dana hubs will interchange fine and for matching the gears your gonna need a new carrier and gear set for your front

You want to get a set of 4.56 "thick" gears. This will allow you to use your current carrier. If you don't know how to setup gears, pay someone to set it up or read here:

Your axle should have 30 spline inner shafts and 19 spline outers.

Why don't you just take the gears out of you fubard D44 and swap them into your new one? Strip the 8 lug stuff off and put it on the 6 lug. Use the spindles out to the hub. The bearing diameter is larger on the spindle for the 8 lug 44's.

BTW, what is fubard on your existing 44?
