Starting to get the pieces for an SAS on my 92 Blazer. I have a HP44 out of a 3/4t 78 Ford, has 4.10s already. Need to get the shafts, but not a problem getting them, and need to get the knuckles out of a Chevy for the flattops, hub/rotors, etc. Will need to get the knuckle drilled for flattop, but it's only $50 and takes a week or so. Crossover arm is $125 for 2.
I just sealed a deal on another HP60 out of a 79, this has 4.10s, needs lockouts, not a big deal as the 80s D50 Fords are all over the place up here. Not sure of on the condition of the rest, but isn't too hard or expensive to rebuilt it, less the gears or guts are whooped.
Gonna be using a D60 rear with 4.10s and a TL, got it for free, and actually is in pretty good shape and has low mileage.
I only plan on running 36s max on this. This will be sorta a d/d, but when it's SAS'd definately gonna wheel it, but there is mostly mud up here, no "hardcare" stuff to speak of. Even if I do the hardcore, the 44 with only running 35s shoudn't stress it that much, and I don't wheel hard at all.
I was thinking about staying with the 1/2t 6 lug stuff. I have OOBS 8" rally's on the Blaze now and I think it looks sweet. With some altitude and some tire, think it would look even better. Another reason for 1/2t, I kinda want to try a small SAS. Seems like alot of guys go for the nose bleed lift, but I want to try a 4-5" one using 52s for a good ride. I think it you mount the front hangers right on the frame, not using a crossmember, and then using OBS rear spring, rear hangers (the shackle hangers) mounted upside down, it would put the hanger up in the frame, and put the spring eye above the bottom of the frame. When I had my ORU kit on the 89, the spring was below the frame a little, can't remember how much. And if I want to go bigger down the road, I could move the mounts down, or get a set of lifted 52s.
Guess this got off track some. If I stay with the 44, need to spend money on crossover and knuckles out, but the 60 is dirt cheap to go crossover. But I can sell the 60 and have more than enough to do the 44. But a 60 would look pretty sweet under a Blazer...
Wow, can't believe how much I rambled.....
