Starting to get the pieces for an SAS on my 92 Blazer. I have a HP44 out of a 3/4t 78 Ford, has 4.10s already. Need to get the shafts, but not a problem getting them, and need to get the knuckles out of a Chevy for the flattops, hub/rotors, etc. Will need to get the knuckle drilled for flattop, but it's only $50 and takes a week or so. Crossover arm is $125 for 2.

I just sealed a deal on another HP60 out of a 79, this has 4.10s, needs lockouts, not a big deal as the 80s D50 Fords are all over the place up here. Not sure of on the condition of the rest, but isn't too hard or expensive to rebuilt it, less the gears or guts are whooped.

Gonna be using a D60 rear with 4.10s and a TL, got it for free, and actually is in pretty good shape and has low mileage.

I only plan on running 36s max on this. This will be sorta a d/d, but when it's SAS'd definately gonna wheel it, but there is mostly mud up here, no "hardcare" stuff to speak of. Even if I do the hardcore, the 44 with only running 35s shoudn't stress it that much, and I don't wheel hard at all.

I was thinking about staying with the 1/2t 6 lug stuff. I have OOBS 8" rally's on the Blaze now and I think it looks sweet. With some altitude and some tire, think it would look even better. Another reason for 1/2t, I kinda want to try a small SAS. Seems like alot of guys go for the nose bleed lift, but I want to try a 4-5" one using 52s for a good ride. I think it you mount the front hangers right on the frame, not using a crossmember, and then using OBS rear spring, rear hangers (the shackle hangers) mounted upside down, it would put the hanger up in the frame, and put the spring eye above the bottom of the frame. When I had my ORU kit on the 89, the spring was below the frame a little, can't remember how much. And if I want to go bigger down the road, I could move the mounts down, or get a set of lifted 52s.

Guess this got off track some. If I stay with the 44, need to spend money on crossover and knuckles out, but the 60 is dirt cheap to go crossover. But I can sell the 60 and have more than enough to do the 44. But a 60 would look pretty sweet under a Blazer...

Wow, can't believe how much I rambled.....:doah:

even though you plan on running 36s..u more then likely will get 38s or maybe 40s later on...im guessing. but id go with the D60, the D44 isnt much bigger then a 10b, you wont have to worry about a thing with the 60 in there. plus it will be 1 ton!:D

Your lighter than a full body full size already , so its your call .

I assumed he was talking about his fullsize '92????

While you could get by with the 44 for now it would not be bulletproof by any means, plus if you put the 60 in now you always have the option of going to bigger tires down the road.....and you know you will.

I have an S-10 Blazer too, but already have an early Bronco 44 and a narrow 60 rear for that....

I miss my 89 with 40" boggers, but that a 454 in it, the Blazer only has a 350, but gonna swap in a nice 406 with Vortecs on it eventually. Thing is a dog now with this motor. He's not on here anymore, but EastCoast4wd had the Blazer that I wanted. Sitting on 40" boggers, cutouts, only 6-7" lift, black, looked pretty sweet. But the wife has to get into this too, she has a hard time now and it's stock with 32s!!

But I really only want to go with 35s or 36s. Check out the pics, that is about that stance that I want. Also since this thing is short, driveline angles will get all screwed up. Plan on doing a SYE but not till later down the road. Only have so much money. Front is nothing with the HP....

Well I have a line on a set of 37" boggers, totally forgot that a local yard has a PL for a Dana 70 with 4.56s, and another yard has a 70 with 4.88s. I think I know where there is a 60 rear that has 4.56s and a PL, I already have a set of 35 spline side gears to put in the front 60. Just need a set of 4.88 for a high pinion.

Sold my truck, along with at least one rear axle, so might be able to pull this off quicker than I thought....

Dana 60 hands down. You'll be much happier.
Its better to have and not need than vise versa. IMO.

if you go w/ the 60...you could sell the 44 fairly easy b/c its a hp, and put that money into the 60, just like you said about selling the 60 for the 44 ,..sell the hp44 for the 60!

damn, wish i could find 4.56's or 4.88s with PL's in a yard for my 60/70 combo!

The HP is a buddy's. I got it for $20, was missing everything from the knuckle out on the driver side. I wasn't gonna use, he wanted it, so gave it to him, he isn't using it right away, said that if you can use it go ahead. But I can find atleast 5-6 HP44s, and that is at 1 yard. Sh!tter is they all have either 3.50s or 3.54s.

I did some checking on Dana 70s, trying to find out what carriers will work in what housings, and I didn't know that the 70s had a 2 peice carrier that looks like a P/L. I found a 70 carrier already out, thought it was a P/L, but need to double check to see. I found 4.56s, 4.88s and 5.13s for a 70. Also found 4.88s and 5.13s for a 60, trying to remember where the 4.56s are, need them for the rear 60 going in the S-10....

can you look for the 5.13s for the 60 and 70 for me?:D 4.10s arent gona cut it for me haha

Pretty sure they are still there, they were under an old line painter or some equipment. As for the 60 5.13s, need to find that rear again, it's "MIA", was in the bed of a truck, now can't find it...

if you can find the 70 5.13s at least that would be a good start, if you cant find the 60 5.13s i can always keep my eyes open for a set else where

I'm gonna go there this week for sure. I have a 2wd S-10 Blazer that I'm gonna be building, need a 700 and a rear out of an early S-10 with 3.08s, both of which they have. Also looking for a Dana 60 P/L to put in the axle, and I remember seeing one that had 5.13s and a P/L. I'm pretty sure it was a 60, it had the big 6 bolt pattern. Even if it is a 70 still could use the center....I'll see what I can find.....

Cant go wrong with the d6o especially when its at the right price. I did happen to make my d44 survive. Warn shafts, no slip, 37 inch mtrs and 400 hp. I broke one ujoint and that was because I never greased the friggin thing. It all depends on if you know when to turn 7000rpm or 2000rpm. I put my d60 in because I got it at the right price for my area. Get the d60. Just like every one else when you go bigger you will have all the axle you will need.

Price was definetley right, think I have $240 into it, traded a NV4500 for it. One of the strongest reasons I want to use it not for beefyness, but simplicity of crossover. I don't wheel hard at all, so the 44 would have been fine, also lighter than the 60. But, I'll go over it, and if I don't want to use it, and if the price is right, I'll sell it. It's not like this is the only one left....
