Dana 44 or Dana 60

I plan on running 38.5/15/16 boggers. My question was do you think I could get away with a 44 up front. It is so hard to find a 60 and the price is crazy. Just some advise please. If I have to ill save up and buy the 60 but dont want to. Just want to know if I'll have to many problems with the 44. Thanks

Run the 44 till it breaks, then buy a 60. By the way, start saving now.

boggers are pretty heavy for their height, 38.5s are prolly gonna kill the 44, especially if you ever see any rocks. Whatever you do, when you know you're about to abuse your rig, get the tires turned straight.

If you leave the front open then you can absolutly abuse a D44 w/ 38's. Sure, your gonna break an axle here and there...but they are cheap, easy to find, and easy to change. If you want to be locked up in the front then you definetly need a 60, so just beat the snot out of the 44 until you find/afford a 60!

i thought because they could handle up to a 44" tire, they called it a Dana 44. the Dana 60 should be able to handle up to a 60" tire. that's why you see Jeeps running around all the time on 35s, alot of them have Dana 35s in the back.

but they have dana 30s in the front. that would look cool, 30" tire in the front and 35" in the rear. now where am i gonna find a 10" tire for my 10b's. wheelbarrow?

Sure 38's on a D44 is probably a bad idea....but we really don't know how hard this guy is going to wheel.....(or is he?) Is there even a front driveshaft?? These are all burning questions that need answers BEFORE we can throw out a blanket statement about it's suitability to task.

So... Mr. Original poster.... what kind of wheeling conditions are we talking about here?

My 38.5s are also 16" wide...that was part of the problem. There's a big difference between a 38x12.50 and a 38.5x16.

Maybe if you stay in the mud and sand you could get away with an open 44 but with the 38.5x15 bogger....I would be looking for a D60 if you plan on wheeling pretty serious.
