Are the axles in or out of the housing? If they are out could you do me a favor and measure how far the neck down area is past the end of the splines?

Reason I ask is because Im narrowing a housing and need to have some axles cut and resplined. Need to be able to cut the necked down area off to have enough meat to respline but the axles I have I would need to cut off 3.5" and I only want to cut 3" per side. Short side doesn't matter cause I can always cut an extra long side down but the long side is where Im having trouble.

Thanks in advance and if the axles are still in the housing don't go through the trouble of pulling them. Im sure I can get a measurement elsewhere if need be.
 
I have to keep that in mind in about in a half a month after I get this months bills paid.

Danna 8 lug hubs and rotors know year? Doing 10b 6 lug to 8 lug conversion.
