I've currently got a 6 lug small hub 44/12 bolt stup in my 76. And was planning on swapping a 8 lug big hub 44/ 14 bolt setup into it. I'm hearing that the small hub 44 is better can I swap parts to keep the small hub and still be 8 lug? someone dumb this down for me

yeah just get the parts from a ten bolt from the knuckle out, you get the same newer style hubs which are cheaper and easier to find. theyre also on 3/4 dana 44s as well but ten bolts are just so much easier to get around here.
they can be found in the old square body 3/4 tons from what, maybe 75 and newer?

Its not that the wheel hub is any better or worse. Its that the external locking hubs are weaker than the internal ones.

If you want to go to 8 lug and keep internal hubs you need to find internal hub 8 lug stuff. It cant be ported or converted.
