What will prevent the Spindle Indexing ring key from creeping into the spindle threads. I have replaced numerous spindle due this and I must be doing something wrong. thx

The ring has in INDEX
that might be worn and now is so short that with a little work it will go over the spindle, I have had a few of those, just get a new one and it shouldn't do it anymore.I have fixed some before by pounding on the tab to stretch it and then grind to fit.
