What year did the dana 44 go to the larger joint? I have heard that the older models had a smaller joint. Just wanted to make sure i didn't get one when replacing my axle. Any other things I should look for in a dana 44? The only difference in a 3/4 and 1/2ton is the brakes right? No Joint size difference is there? Thanks, Jake

'73 was the dividing year as far as I have been told.

Cool thanks! I figured it was an easy question just couldn't find any info on it. I didn't see it listed on the specifications page. Jake

Yup 73 or higher for the 5-297x ujoint. On both versions of 1/2ton & 3/4ton D44, same joint!
How to tell? Cap size is the eaisyest. Just measure the dia. of the cap. I don't know the part # of the smaller one...
