Just got my truck aligned after new king pins and tire rods. It came back out of spec +6.5deg on caster both sides, and +0.3deg camber DS and -0.3deg camber PS and the alignment shop won't shim it. Should I try to shim it or does it sound good? I was trying to alleviate the death wobble which seems to have disappeared for now...where can I get the shims?

This is a good question. Been thinking about having mine looked at and getting a read out like that so I know where I stand. Would be great to know where to get the shims.

Note: Fender washers are for shimming the spring on top of the king pin bushing which will reduce/eliminate death wobble. They are not used to change wheel alignment (although they may slightly).

The king pins are new, pins, bearings, springs, bushings, caps, seals, races etc etc etc. There is no need for the fender washers. The problem is that it is out of alignment which I imagine could foster death wobble...caster/camber is where you get your the track straight and return to center. If it is out of spec presumably it will amplify the death wobble? Any alignment guys here?

The camber shims should be available at any GOOD auto parts store. jus tell them what degree shims you need.

I am assuming wheel bearings are all tight? that could affect caster.
If you're not experiencing steering problems, probably wouldn't be worth worrying about camber or caster.

those #'s are your readings, what did they say was the specs?

All I ever set is the toe. Just keep and eye on your tires. If your truck drives good and your tires aren't wearing funny then you should be fine.

The individual caster does not matter...as long as your cross caster is within specs it is OK.

I don't know the factory camber specs, but if they are not really off. I would not mess with them.

Toe and Go!
