I recently picked up a 89 k5, have been doing a lot of work to it lately, bought it with the stock fuel injected 350, around a 4 inch (blocks all around lift) and 38.5 inch tires, not safe at all i know, I have replaced the front block lift with 5 inch skyjacker springs, rhinolined the whole interior, played with the wiring that the previous owner did which was horrific, well i decided to get some better gears for it and came across a dana 60 and a 14 bolt with 4.56s and a detroit in the rear, but last week the motor went out and started knocking like crazy from the bottom end, my buddy said it was probably a spun bearing so i have been replacing those this week, waiting on the rear 6 inch procomp springs to get in and once i get those in i am going to do the 14 bolt swap and the 60 swap as well

heres my question i have been searching and found tons of build threads on the 14 bolt and dana 60 but have not found much on what needs to be changed out, i know they bolt right in but what will i need as far as driveshafts go? do i need a different driveshaft or i heard something about different u-joints

also picked up a set of 16.5" h1 wheels with 38.5 inch boggers to go with the axles and the rear wheels fit perfectly over the drums but the fronts dont clear the calipers and wont go all the way on the lugs because of the tie rod?

any suggestions? thanks

for the rear you will need napa ujoint 447 for the pinion and relocate the spring perches to match the k5. you will also need spring plates for both of them, you can find them aftermarket from a few of our vendors here, good **** too.

those H1 wheels have 7.25 inches of backspacing, meaning they are sucked in under the truck 3.25 inches too much. you can run spacers up front or swap out some dually hubs off of a dually dana 60. also you can have those wheels recentered to the correct backspacing.

awesome thank you so much exactly what i needed to know, will post up some pics once its done
