I have an opportunity to buy the front and rear matching set out 1987 dually and going into a 1987 k5. Is there anything that I will need to do to the rearend to get it to match into my rig? I believe the front will go up exactly.

An '87 dually wideside bed will have the D70HD, not an 80.

You will need to relocate the spring perches and shock mounts to fit your K5. Perches will need to be mounted out slightly and mounts will need to be flipped opposite sides of each other.

Plan on addressing the brake issues such as replacing the vacuum booster and MC for the hydroboost/MC.

What if I stayed with the 14 bolt full float that I have and went with the Dana 60 out of the dually is there any width issues.

Yep, the dually hub will put the wheel mount surface much wider. Hubs could be swapped for single wheel hub.

Well, the dually Dana 60 is 8" wider than a single wheel one, so if you aren't running dually wheels (or stock H1 Hummer double beadlocks) the dually front end is way too wide. It can be converted by switching hubs but they aren't super cheap.

So depends on how cheap you can get the front axle, it will likely cost you $450-600 to convert it.

Just get some H1 wheels and call it good with the 60/70 combo.

You'll get more choices of lower gear ratios with the 60/70 than you can with any front and 14FF rear. Lowest ratio for a 14FF is 5.38 and lowest for the 70 is 7.17.

Excuse my ignorance but I thought once the 14 bolt came in the dana 70 in the 1 tons was phased out?

I don't know when they started making the 14bff dually wide axle, but in 89 they still were using d70HD in the wide dually.

So dana 70s were still in standard width full bed/full width duallys while the ca and chassis narrow duallys went to 14 bolts right away then?

I'm just entering the conversation here.

My 89 Crew Cab was a single rear wheel type long bed, it had/has a 14 bolt rear in it.

Dana 70 rear axles came in dually 76-91 (as far as I know) Chevy 1 tons. My guess is they wanted the bigger axle tubes.

Single wheel trucks and dually cab and chassis trucks were 14 bolts IIRC.
