So here is the story. I purchased a Dana 60 dually hub axle with auto-hubs. I bought a set of srw hubs with rotor and studs off a guy on ebay (They look just like the Gmpartsdirect package) and put them on no problem and reinstalled the auto hubs.

Everything worked but the auto hubs. They never seemed to unlock and made funny noises above 20 mph.

So I bought some used warn non-premium hubs that seem to fit fine, but do not go in far enough. When I install the selector cap(I don't know the official term for it), it won't sit flush with the wheel hub. It kind of springs in and out and sits about 1/4 inch away.

Well that is my novel. Any ideas whats going on?

Do you have 35 spline outer stub axles?

I don't think so. I believe they are 30 spline stock GM pieces. The spline count matches up on the axle and the hub. They just don't seem to go on far enough.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the external snap ring on the end of the axle shaft?
Are they supposed to have a large internal snap ring to hold them in place? I know the auto hubs had one.

Ok, some upgrade 35 spline stubs hit the backside of the hub dial.

For the ring on the end of the shaft, try using a pry bar in the knuckle to push the shaft outward (to expose more of the end of the shaft).

Yes, there should also be a large ring to go in the end of the bearing hub snout to hold the locking hub body.

Alright so both of the axle shaft snap rings are on. I think that I am missing the large snap ring and that is why the hub moves in and out. It the selectable hub still does not sit flush with the wheel hub though. It has a gap about a 1/8 of an inch and I cannot push it in so it sits flush.

Is that the way it is or should it sit flush

So I got the axle shaft snap rings on, but I am still missing the large snap ring that keeps the hub from sliding around. The hubs seem to work without it, but they slide in and out of the wheel hub. The downside is that when I push the selectable hub in it will not sit flush with the wheel hub. There is a gap of about an 1/8 of an inch.

Is this normal? Oh and any ideas where I could find the large snap rings?

The turn dial assy should site flush. Check to see if the stub shaft is hitting the back side of the dial.

Wait... you said you have 2 snap rings on but not the large one? You should have one small ring on at the end of the stub axle (outboard of the locking hub mechanism) and then the large one. What other ring do you have installed?

Alright so I think I got it figured out. Thanks NV. So I found the two large rings. I also managed to get one side completely on. The large spiral rings are a major pita. What I meant is that I got both of the axle shaft rings put on. I have four rings total two small and two large spiral ones.

Gotcha!

If all else fails, use a bigger hammer. :D
