Does anybody know how far does the axle have to be torn down, in order to replace the U-joints on my Dana 60 axle shafts? Would I have to tear it down to the steering knuckles, or could the u-joints be replaced just by removing the tires and hubs?

You need to remove the tires, hubs, wheel bearing adjusting nuts, hub/rotor assemblies and then the backing plate and spindle.

Basically, as you stated, down to the steering knuckles.

As a plus, you can ditch the stupid spash shields while you're in there.

Not worth it to half ass this project. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
