As the username suggests, im always looking for upgrades. My newest upgrade is putting factory discs (w/factory parking brake) on the 14 bolt and as I was thinking about things...

Im also in the process of rebuilding the FRONT dana 60 and I was thinking about putting the front calipers off the same truck as the disc'ed 14b onto the dana 60.

Im going to have to buy calipers and rotors anyways, and im was going to contact Kert to see if he could fab me up some caliper brackets.

Thoughts?

Well, first thing is whether the newer brakes offer anything. If the rotors are significantly larger in diameter, that's good, as that would give you more anti-torque or whatever you call the leverage against the rotation of the wheel -- i.e. more braking force for the same caliper force.

Also, are the caliper pistons larger/smaller in diameter (and IIRC, a SMALLER piston will exert more force for the same hydraulic pressure) ... and how big are the pads? Presumably a larger pad with more friction area would be a good thing.

Last issue: Cost. If it's stupid money ... not so much good =))

Why re-engineer the wheel? I could see you wanting to make brackets that would allow the use of D60 calipers on the rear but not the other way around. The D60 calipers are beefy as hell already. Having a drum e-brake in hat would be nice if they hold as well as a regular drum brake e-brake.

Im talking about the front calipers from the same truck, not putting rear brakes on front. I know the rotor is like 1/2 inch bigger on the newer truck and its a dual piston setup. As far as pads, I dont know, but I know the 99-06 3/4 and 1 ton brakes work crazy good.

Agreed on the money thing
