I bought a Detroit locker for my Dana 60 front axle for my K5. Is it difficult to install the carrier bearings? For that matter, can I reuse the bearings on the open carrier for the detroit?

you can reuse the bearings if you get themoff of the old carrier without destroying them. You may want to use the old bearings as setup bearings for getting the shims correct on the Detroit
I've setup a bunch of diffs (~25) and I've only been able to get the carrier bearings off of a couple dana carriers.
Unfortunately, IMO, you'll need new carrier bearings. I've had to cut the bearings off of every D60 carrier I've dealt with.
Even with new bearings, you're taking a pretty big risk without setup bearings.
