Dana 60 dust shields

I don't know. They look like they would work. Why do you want them. I though mine away.

different design than gm if you want correct.

and as said not realy needed .

up here in the rust belt we don't find them :haha:

The ones on the D60 I'm swapping into my K5 are bent up. Do they really serve no purpose?

Toss them. Nothing but dirt, dust and junk collectors.

How are they held on? Does the hub/disc need to come off? I think I'll have the outer stuff all apart soon anyway, but ...

Held on by the spindle and caliper mount to the knuckle. Nuts and studs in other words.

My D60 is being disassembled and I got to the dust shields. Looks like there are two sheet metal pieces per side, the big shield over the rotor and a smaller "cake pan" round thing. Are they both optional, or just the big one?

Technically both optional, but I reinstalled the 'cake pan' since it can keep dust and debris off of the polished part of the spindle where the grease seal rides. See the passenger side in photo.

i just threw my dust shields away today, kept the cake pans too, for the same reason.

Looks like Dynatrac doesn't bother with the cake pans.

Hmm.. Now I'm starting to wonder if I need to get some cake pans for my D60 too. Mine were rusted away to nothing and literally disintegrated during my teardown & rebuild.

Seems like some mixed answers. I've seen where some say they only serve to accumulate mud and muck in there and thus they ditch em. And this thread now seems to have some ppl. supporting their use.

I kept mine, but I would say both are true. If you ride in a lot of mud, they will certainly trap some of it, but for everything else, they will keep road debris/sand/etc away from the grease seal. I'd say it's personal preference and depends on your driving conditions.

Mine will be a shiny-paint 90% street truck - so cake pans for me.

By the way, I'm pretty sure we just named these 'cake pans'. No matter what the real name is, they will be cake pans to me from now on.
