I've been on the lookout for an 8 lug diff for my '66 burb for a while now and came across a Dana 60 out of a '70 Chevy van. I was looking for a 14bolt ff but this seems like it would work out good. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Id hold out for a 14FF although in your case with a Vintage burb, if you could find an old Eaton thats the way I would go.

I don't do any hard wheelin with it, just plonkin around the desert, but I plan to do some towing. The PO swapped in a 10 bolt up front, so I was just gonna do the 8 lug upgrade. With the extra torque of the 454, and the low gears in the SM420, I baby it off road for fear of wasting the worn out 12 bolt.

I thought about going the Eaton route, but since it already has the "wrong" front diff and engine, it's probably not important. I'm gonna measure my diff and go and look at the 60, hopefully tomorrow. Are they realy that weak? Fully loaded and gassed my boat weighs in at probably close to 8,000 lbs., but I live like 5 miles from the launch ramp.

It is a full floating rear so its load capacity is significantly higher than your 12 bolt's.

The shafts are probably 19 spline and are the same size as the 12 bolt shafts.

I swapped in a 60 rear in my 62. Was out of a 78/79 1 ton Ford. It bolted in, driveshaft even bolted up. Probly know this but the spring pad width is the same as 1 tons, and 1 ton Fords too.

If you look in my sig, there are some shots of it, has the silverish wagon wheels....

Thanks for the replys. I talked to a local drivetrain guy today and he said he has a few 14bolt ffers in his yard and thinks more than one should have 4.11s to match my front diff. When I asked like 6 months ago he didn't have any. He said depending on condition, it sould be $200 or less which is what the guy wanted for the 60. I'll go back after new years and get one if it measure out okay.
