Sometimes the truck does this when slowing down at speeds above 40-45 or so. If I lightly depress the brake and slowly stop it won't do it, but if I hit the brakes the front end will shake almost like a warped rotor and shake the truck. Is this "death wobble" in the front end? The truck has no issues getting up to 65 and has no vibrations, only during medium braking. Could it possibly be a warped rotor or any other thoughts?

Got under the truck and looked for bad tie rods, etc but they all have less than 10k of street miles on them and nothing stood out to me.

That can only be warped rotors or bad pads. But if you have any lose ball joints it could make the shake worse.
Death wobble starts with no braking and usually is stopped by the brakes.

Pop 'em tires off and take a look. I know how it is though, noticed when I came home today my driver's front hub and rim were overly warm. I might get to it tomorrow. :D

sure sounds like warped rotors. while youre at it jack up the front end and give everything a shake to make sure nothing is worn out.

Hoping the weather warms up around here so I can head outside for a while and pop the tires off, trucks too tall to fit into the garage.

Not real familiar with the D60, but when the steering stabilizer (the horizontal shock) on my 10 bolt failed, getting off the freeway the first time it happened, I thought I was losing a front wheel. If death wobble is anything like that, my sympathies to anyone that has experienced it. I stopped and got out to check which wheel had the loose lugnuts, and resituate my underwear.

Personally I think the old (read=fairly warped) rotors exacerbated the problem. Once I replaced the stabilizer, the problem nearly disappeared, although under the same braking conditions I could still feel slight "pulsing" through the steering wheel. I replaced the rotors, and the problem was gone.

well my stabilizer is going on three years old, maybe I'll replace that along with the rotors if nothing else seems out of whack. Is there a nice thread about replacing rotors on a dana 60 on here? Did a search and didn't find much with pictures. Thought I remembered reading you have to disassemble a lot to change rotors on them.

Betcha its death wobble. When you hit the brakes the truck dives forward a bit, just enough to set it off.

What's your caster angle setting at?

My stabilizer was a parts store cheapy, and was about 8 years old.

I wouldn't replace it unless you know its bad. Disconnect, see how easily it operates. Mine had visibly leaked fluid, so that was a pretty easy call.

caster is whatever the 4" EZ rides would set it at with zero rates moved 1" forward. Don't even know how I'd check it to be honest.
