Anybody tell me whether these are available at local auto parts places like NAPA? Or is it a special item that's going to slow me down again?

Shop around before you decide on NAPA, I bought one from them and it was like $50 or $60 I got it only because I was in a rush and needed it right now!

Autozone/kragen rents a lot of that stuff.

Not sure of that specific one though.

make sure it has cut outs for pin on spindle nuts. some cheepy sockets dont. and this will break off your pin and cause you more b.s than you want.

no stores around me have the 6 prong d60 socket, so i look for 1 on the snap-on truck...$70, i started to get it but wasn't sure it was right, it wasn't built like my 1/2-3/4 ton socket, which is just a big ole' socket w/the prongs. what he showed me looked like that w/6 prongs, but had like another smaller xocket in the middle, kinda looked like it slide over the spindle to keep the outter socket squared up or sum'n :dunno: i'll see if i can find a pic.

OTC 1929.

At least, it fits the 14BFF, and IIRC it's also good for D60's. (Donno ... I have three 14BFF's, but no D60's :( )

Huh. Seeing as D70 rears use the same hub as 14BFF, the pic and number then may be the larger one ... but anyway, the pic gives an idea.

that pic posted wont do you much good on a axle with the shaft still in there.

that socket is for rear full floaters were the axle shaft is pulled out and not in the way.

first few years of dana 60 had 6 tooth for socket needs. then thay went to 4 tooth.

and yes 14ff socket 6 tooth should work no problem on the 60 old style nuts. as long as its not like the one in that pic.

and you can get new nut kits to convert to 4 tooth for cheep.

and dana 60 and 14ff use same spindle size and thread . guys have swaped around for years with this.

ok, thats what i was wanting to know, glad i didn't buy it now, so i need 1 that looks like my 1/2 ton socket...i was under the influence all d60's had 6 prongs, guess i need to pull my lockers off and look and see what is actually in mine b4 i buy anything...axles are out of either an 84 or 85 k30...thanks guys

wow you have lockers on the outside and a pair no less? got pics? :haha:

sorry couldnt help my self.

and 84-85 would bet 4 tooth. i had a 83 with 4 and few others newer and all 4 . parted a 79 blown up 1 time had 6 so i used my 14ff socket not designed like the 1 in the pic.

10-4, thanks for the links & the lesson, i knew the locker was in the diff, wasn't sure of correct term for the lockouts...thanks again, going to pull mine apart and go to back to snappy truck, also going to get nuts so they are same on all 4 corners, thanks for that tip also!
