Dana 60 ID thread

Be careful using hubs some 44s came with very large locking hubs I have seen guys get overly excited about finding a 60 cause these hubs are bigger than a stock internal hub. Obviously easily identifiable by the large bolts on the outside of the hub

I almost bought a truck a few months back because of this. Couldnt get in to see it but it had a dually rear and these large hubs up front, figured it had to be a 60. It never crossed my mind that someone may have swapped in the dually rear, even though the front had srw hubs:doah:. Made arrangements to look at it and instantly saw the balljoints and walked away.

Ive looked at a lot of axles, its this weird thing I have where when I look at a truck Ive got to see what kind of axle it has, anyway its pretty easy for me to tell if its a 60 or 44 just by the size of the housing. It might be hard to tell in pictures or if you havent looked at very many but a 60 is a monster of a housing compared to a 44.

For me it's always been the knuckles, D60 knuckles are twice as big as a D44.
