After reading how hard it is to change them on here, would y'all change them on an axle that has 30,000 miles on it if one of them looked like this on one side?

It is hard to tell exactly what I am looking at in the pic. Is it surface rust, wear, etc..? Is the worn area rought to the touch? Is there a "lip" on it when you run your finger nail across it?

What does the spring and cone look like that came off of that side?

It's not rust, it looks like wear. When i run my finger nail across it, it feels the same as the rest of the kingpin. The spring and cone look fine, without a new spring I can't tell if it's collapsed, but it looks fine to me.

I would take a close look at the plastic cone for signs of wear. If the wear in the cone looks uniform, and the kingpin is smooth I would not be concerned.

I am sure some other people will chime in to confirm this or send you in another direction.

Can you feel any kind of transition from the discolored part to the polished part with your finger nail?
