got a felling my project truck axle will need a new pair. as its chunky with some new england salt rust.

lookin for best place to get new dust / seal protectors for the hub seal. thay bolt on the knuckle/spindle area first then brake rotor dust shield and then brake caliper bracket.

i would like to find new brake rotor dust shields and then the seal protector smaller ring .

any links would be good. thanks guys. tryin to get all my stuff ready for the big build when i get better.

and i searched the net for around 20 min. most everything that come up was the mud slinger shield for the stubb shaft to spindle back. i dont need that.

I prefer to leave those dust shields off. Mud and garbage like to collect in them. Mine left in the scrap iron pile years ago. Otherwise I am not sure where to look but I have seen some people parting out axles from time to time, might check pirate classifieds too.

I'm pretty sureI have a set or two left over from projects. Send me a PM about this so I will remember to check for them next week when I am out at the shop. Yours for the shipping.

I know I am digging up a dead post, but I suppose that's what using the search tool will bring sometimes!

My scenario is about identical to the OP, but I just want to make sure that getting rid of THIS dust shield is typically what you guys do too. I know that the brake rotor, innermost dust shield usually gets tossed by those of us who spend more time off road then on but this little one here I am not sure about. Looks like it is some sort of secondary spindle protector? And I too am not talking about the spindle mud slinger / shield that goes on the spindle itself.

Here's a photo of what's left of mine.

I want to know what the hell is in Highpsi's picture. I rebuilt what I'm sure was a completely stock drw d60 and didn't see all that stuff in the picture.

What he said

Ok, but I don't want to put it back unless it is needed. I'll go that route if I hear some replies that seem to indicate it is needed under all circumstances but otherwise I'd prefer to just put it back together without.

I doubt he's still got them after a year and a half anyway... :dunno:

I threw away my rotor dust shields, but the little shield for the seal you are pointing too in red was rusted away to nothing. I couldn't find any anywhere I called, until I called Boyce equipment, they had brand new GM units available that were plated. Which was odd considering if you call a GM dealer they are discontinued...anyway, call Boyce.

anyone with a better pic or what it's suppose to look like? I trashed the dust shields on the back of the caliper brackets because they were bent and I didn't need them. This hub shield might be more of a rustbelt thing. :)

 Yea... I haven't seen many posts or found much in my internet searching where ppl. are talking about this thing.

But it does seem to be pictured in an exploded view that I dug up on Pirate...

Is it this thing??

Picture of said MUCK holders-

:haha:

I think that about says what I need to know. My rig is going to be used in the mud a lot too, so maybe it will be best for me to just skip the friggin things. Thank you for offering to help though.

I take it most of you guys are running without??

folkenheath-- you kept yours? That surprises me a bit as I've read your build thread and it looks like you spend like %99 of your time off road with your rig (which is BAD to the bone by the way -- )

Thank you. And yes I kept mine, when speaking with ORD looking for a set they said during desert racing the sand and dirt can into the seal and wear it out prematurely. They said they actually build shields for the back too. So although I ditched the brake shields, I kept that little shield for the seal. I was going to ditch it until ORD said that, they just couldn't get any, said they usually reuse them (darn rustbelt). When I called Boyce they had them in stock.

Now for slow speed stuff and mud maybe you are better off without them, I'm not sure there.

nope, never had em. I remember my d44 having something like that tied to the dust shield though, but my junkyard d60 didn't
