Ok, since I am stalled on the big block until I get some new pushrods... I am going to prep my dana 60 for install. This thing was cut out of an army truck. I do not know the nomenclature for everything. But I am trying to figure out how to pull what i believe is the old steering arm off of the dana 60, and this m*fer wont come off. Anyone care to give me thier two cents? Also, anything in particular i should do (besides brakes, and lube) before I install it?

Take the nut off the back and hit the end of the steering arm with a big hammer to dislodge it. You can also use a pickle fork under it, but it'll tear the rubber boot.

The piece circled is a drag link end. Any chance you're going with crossover steering instead of push/pull? If so, just unbolt the arm itself from the top of the knuckle. If not, use the heaviest hammer you have and don't be afraid of hurting it. :wink1:

If i knew how to setup a cross over steering, had the parts, and knew what the benefits were. I am sure I would be using one. I usually just slap things on as is, and see if I like it or not tho. So maybe down the road?

Crossover is easy with a Dana 60 , its a bolt on . The axle will accept the steering arms already , they bolt right to the top of each knuckle using the 4 studs .

What you will need , and for a K truck with a Dana 60 there are lots of kits out there in low steer ( under spring tie rod ) and high steer ( over spring tie rod ) :

You will need a 2wd truck steering gearbox , bolts right on to frame .

You will need a dropped pitman arm for the steering gearbox .

You will need a draglink to run from steering pitman arm to passenger side steering arm .

New tie rod if going highsteer .

The benefits are being able to steer when the tires are turned and the axle is articulating . The stock steering doesn't do that as axle articulation changes the draglink effective length .

well the crossover steering looks sexy, however it will have to wait until another time. It would probably be at least a week until i would get it our here in washington. And I only have until the end of this week to get my new axles under the truck, and the old ones out. So, at a later time I guess:-) Still havent been able to get that thing off either, so i cleaned it up, and am about to apply the first coat of POR 15.

Ok, talked to the people at ORD today and I decided to go with a cross over setup. At least I got the axle POR 15'd up, and looking sexy. Will have to wait till this weekend to install.

They build each kit individually, and it would be at least a week till they could get one to me. So I think I will stick with ORD. Plus I have been really impressed with their stuff in the past, so I dont mind paying a little bit more if I know its going to be top notch. Thanks for the info though!
