I'm looking at getting a front D60 for my K5. The place I'm getting it from will totally rebuild the axle & shot peen parts, new bearings, seals, king pins, my choice of gears, Spicer 5-806-X joints, New Raysbestos High Performance Semi-Metalic brake pads, turned rotors (maybe new), all reassembled to factory specifications and freshly painted black.

The price for that is 1200.00, and shipping (probably around 250.00)

He's also going to include a 1350 yoke for just the cost of the yoke if I want, he still needs to shoot me the price difference for that.

So, is this a good deal? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Smokin' deal? It sounds pretty good to me, just thought I'd get some opnions.

That is a pretty good damn deal, I paid $950 for mine+$300 for shipping/crating. I had to pretty well rebuild the whole axle, brakes were trashed, hubs toasted, seals shot. So yes that is a good deal, I would have gone that way if I had the chance.

$1200 is the going rate for a D60 that is in so so shape here in AZ. $1500 for one from a running driving truck. If you are set on a D60 then I would jump on that deal.

That's pretty much the rate here too. When you can find one. I figure if I'm going to pay that amount, it feels so much sweeter knowing it's rebuilt. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

No kiddin'.. I have a friend who has a friend who said I can come get a rearend he has. Sounds like it's either going to be a 14FF or 60. He really does not know. He got it for a "hot rod" project that he never started, and said I can come get it. I've just been having some trouble getting me, my buddys, and his schedule to jive.. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

It would really be sweet if it has the gears I need. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

if its a hot rod project he never started, could it posibly be a ford 9 inch?

Anything is poss, but he said he took it out of a 1 ton GM. So, it will just be a matter of me seeing it to know for sure what it is. I figure, worst case, I can use it to get the rear I want. You know, something that looks good when I wear a thong... LOL

I bought a complete 1979 1 ton for the dana 60 for 500 bucks with a 465 trans crate goodwrench 350 and 205 t-case and 14 bolt in the rear, had to put about 1k in the front end gears, carrier, calipers king pin kits, rotors pads lockouts so I would say thats a good deal!!!!

I didn't read the whole thread but here is my experiance...
I bought mine for $750 off ebay, thinking it was good deal (not that it wasn't). I have been completely rebuilding it w/ a power-loc 5.13s new Timkens from hub-to-hub, new 35 spline lockouts and stubs to match and spicer u-joints. With me doing all the work myselft and getting new and used parts at good prices on ebay I've topped $2,000 for my D-60 (if you count shipping for all the above items). If I had to do it over again (not knowing about your source), I would have seriously considered paying $3,200 for a Boyce axle equiped to the same specs as the one I built.

To sum it all up... your DEAL is a STEAL!!!! IMO

I'll be more than happy send you his way... but let me contact him first and see if he does not mind. The company does a lot of work for CAT & John deere etc. and I think they/he just sort of does this when they are slow to keep some sort of production going.

Anyway, I'm not sure he could handle a large volume of folks wanting D60's but I'll let him be the judge of that. I'll ask if it's ok to post his info, and if says it's ok, then I will. I know for a fact, that he locates one and then does it. It's not like he has a bunch laying around etc. So, if he agrees, it will likely be a first come first serve type of deal.
