I have a Dana 60 from a 1986 K-30, M-1031 with a factory limited slip.
I'm using the ring and pinion and installing a grizzly locker.

The shop doing the install asked me for the carrier outer shims (the thick shims) that I seen on youtube, that goes between the carrier bearing race and housing.

But I cant find these shims.
I don't remember seen these shims when I removed the carrier from the housing. I immediately, using a plastic tie, tied the side carrier races to the bearings and carrier to keep them all together.

Question:
Could it be that the factory limited slip did not use those thick outer shims? or if all Dana 60's use them, then I must have lost them.

Thank you,

Ed

Differentials vary, most GM manufactured diffs have the shims where you describe.

Every Dana 60 I've been in to had the shims under the tapered bearing itself, you'd have to press the bearing off to get to the shims.

Are you talking about the thick outer shims? You said: Most GM manufactured diffs have the shims where you describe

I can see the factory carrier shims under the tapered bearings, but the person on youtube used both the inner, under the tapered bearing and the thick shim between the bearing race and carrier.

could it be possible that this dana 60 with the factory limited slip did not use the outer thick shims?

thank you,
Ed

dana axles in our vintage are shim under bearing . corp 10/12 bolt stuff has big shim like they want .

sound like they have no clue on how to set up a axle if you ask me .

Are they setting up your original gears on a new locker in your original housing? If so they don't need anything from you. Any good gear shop is going to have extra shims laying around. I know shops that f you brought them a housing, locker and ring and pinion set they could set it up without asking you for anything more.
