hey guys, i been looking around for a good deal on a 14 bolt, but i do have a dana 60 that i had bought to replace the axle in my 97 Dodge 2500, i believe the axle is a 95 with 4.10's. well i sold the truck last month and still have the axle, but has anyone ever put a d60 in the rear of a k5? or should i just stick to looking for a 14band sell the d60? either way i go i will have to cut off the spring mounts and reweld with the lift i have the axle needs to be tilted up a bit so no matter what axle i get ill have to do that already. thanks

Stock to stock the 14 bolt will win the strength battle every time. Unless its a HD 60 which has 35 spline shafts, the regular 60 rear has 31 spline shafts that are a smaller diameter.

Still an upgrade from a half ton axle though.

From a 3/4 ton Dodge its possible it is a 70, which would be great.

In either case if you already have the 60 I would throw it in.

Pretty sure its a bit wider than a 14b ( which I like) and like you said you will have to move all the mounts around to match your truck and possible adapt the brake lines. All pretty simple stuff

Like already stated, not as strong as a 14, but a lot better then 1/2 ton stuff. It should be about 3 inches wider then a 14, but will match the width of the front axle. Unless it was from a cummins truck it should be a 60, the cummins trucks got 70's and the stick shift diesels got 80's.

If you've got it, I would use it bottom line.

Yeah I'm sure it's a 60 I ran the numbers on it when I got it, I had a dodge 2500 with the 5.9 gas motor and that's what it would have gone in. Thanks for the comments. I am trying to find a parts truck with 14bff/d60 so I can have the front and rears matching gear sets, but that Dana 60 will be plan B. if the 14bff is stronger then I prob will go that route. If I'm gonna take the time to swap axles then I might as well do it right the first time!
