Hey Y'all,

For those who rebuilt their Dana 60's, did you keep/replace your outer shaft oil/mud slingers or did you discard them? How much functionality do these actually have? They wouldn't be there if they didn't serve a purpose but they're such a PITA to find. I found the slinger, but not the corresponding seals that go with them. A little help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Manny

i kept mine no problems finding them, got them from a dana supply house here in town.

i thought mini-wally said ORD had them??

Mine unfortuately, are completely destroyed. Rust took its toll.

I checked their web site for them as I just recently placed an order with ORD They list/have every type and kind of bearing, race and seal for the 60, but don't list those. Strange??? Either way, those slingers' are tough boogers to find. At least the matching seals anyway.

You must use the "slinger" as that is where the seal goes on and without it or the seal you are going to ruin bearing after bearing on that D60.

I have mine installed. I think they are called a stone shield to keep big stuff out of the spindle bearing. I do not however have the snap ring on the shaft to keep it pulled tight against the seal. I dont run mud or water so I dont think it is an issue for me. As for where to get them I got mine on Ebay for cheap I will see if I can find them they were in a e-store. Partsmike also has them.

Ira, i would be careful not running the snap-rings on your stubs as i've heard stories of the axle binding up when in a turn and exploding the u-joint and or shaft.

Maybe that is why I broke my front Dshaft yoke:doah:. Where can I find the proper snap rings?

Manny- I will get in the garage and see if I still have the other set of slingers if I do I will let you know. How soon do you need them?

Guys,

I must be having the worst case of a
brainfart.gif
I've ever had. It is my understanding that the spindle has a needle bearing, an inner seal that sits against that bearing, and an outer shield that is pressed into the bearing that holds it all together. Next comes the oil slinger which sits up by the drive shaft yoke base and has a seal that "locks" it snug in place.

This is where the
brainfart.gif
comes in. I'm looking at the following pic from Partsmike. What am I missing...

This is the seal kit from them:

Are any of these the slinger or are they all the spindles???

Now I'm completely lost. This is so stupid. Why can't I understand this easy concept. I'm such a

No.. i dont think it does..it just says lips seals and spindle bearing.. i think it is the same kit as the picture you posted from partsmike.net..

If you ordered the SBK3 kit it does not come in the kit. You will still need to buy them.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. Y'all are just as much a part of this projects success as anyone. I'm very grateful.

Problem solved!

Ordered a set from ORU early this morning. They are on their way! Is there any trick to installing these on the axle shafts? Or do I need to have a driveline shot install them?

Thanks!

Manny

Nope just slide them over the stub and tap down with a hammer so they are seated against the yoke. You should see a little ledge on your stub where it will seat. Maybe 15 min for both sides since you are already torn down:D . I guess I wont look through the garage then:bow: .

I posted this number on Manny's build-up thread last week.

I also quoted that the SBK-kits are optional with the slingers. SBK1 and SBK3 are the common replacement kits for seals and bearing. There's another number with SBK that has the slingers in them, too. Don't know what they are but can find out.

I saw that you posted the kits K30, but I bought all the bearings, races and seals. I just needed the slingers. I don't know why, but here in Texas, they have no clue what they are. In fact, most have never heard of a Dana 60 before. They still require the VIN, year, make and model. Go figure! Hope you didn't take it personally. No offense meant.
