I have been looking for information on a 60 regear. Thinking I am going 5.38s from my current 4.10s. Is there some good write ups on the tools needed and such? Are these like a 44 with the shim under the bearings on the carrier?

If the shim goes under the bearings... Do you use a mock up bearing and grind out the center so it slips on and off the carrier?

Im also helping install 5.38s in a set of 1 ton axles at the moment...

set up bearings are the way to go, even if you have a press handy!

Going thick gear. I have been thinking about a detroit but then I should also get better inner axles, outer axles, hubs, etc. I am going to just run my std carrier and lockrite for now. I have been doing ok so far but I have to slip the clutch to maintain control or speed. I figured getting proper gearing would help alot.

if low pinion I don't think there is a thick gear last I knew of .

only high pinion does thick gear .

at least in dana 60 stuff.

OH Man and after I was going to post a link. I looked about a month ago and found that they had them now. I was looking at buying a case spreader now too. I know I don't need one but I have 2 60s and all my buddies do to so it will go to use.

It would make it a bit easier on the shims!

I guess I didn't ask this before but do you guys think the 70 one crawl ratio will be good with my 40s and LPG 454.

You can buy "Set Up" bearing from one of the big suppliers. They make then already clearenced so you don't have to grind out the ID of a good or old bearing for setup. I think they're cheaper too since they're setup bearing not ment for use.
