About to start putting my D60 back together again. I'm out of town right now and don't have the luxury of looking at it. Aside from the pinion seal and kingpin seals, what other seals are there to replace? I want to order these so I have them by the weekend.

Also, what's involved in rebuilding the calipers? I can get new ones from Oreilly for $22 each, or do it myself - but not really sure how much is involved.

Thanks in advance for the info guys.

Axle seals (need the carrier out to install these)

Wheel seals

Spindle bearing seals (usually a kit - # "SBK3")

22 each reman out of the box :dunno: = hell ya if you dont have the tools and or time.

and best make sure thay are for dana 60 at that price. last ones i got were 50 each my shop price at autozone.

Also I would suggest outer tube seals. Keeps the garbage out of the axle tubes.

Just checked again to make sure I'm not loco and they are 22.99 each on the website with a core. part 18-4166 and 18-4167 which appears to be the proper caliper. however I cant tell if it's the kind that's held on with a wedge or not...

I have them in my front. They rubber has alot of give so it can handle quite a bit of shaft deflection. I think they are worth it to keep the axle tubes clean. I wouldn't run them as the primary seal though. I pack between the 2 rubber lips full of grease before sliding shaft in.

Wow talk about perfect timing for this thread. I've just torn my D60 apart that I recently bought off CL and was wondering about all the specific seals.

Do the axle shaft inner seals just pry out from in the gearcase area or does it work best to pound them out from the outside of the tubes with a long drift? Any tips on putting them back in? Looks like there's black silicone under the o.d. of the ones in it now.

The rust flakes and crap inside the axle tubes was insane! Thankfully the tubes are just about the perfect diameter for my shop vac and ssshhhhoooosh it sounded like a freaking sandstorm when I pulled all that gunk outta there.

I think I'll be taking a serious look at those outer tube seals too. One of my first thoughts was WTF keeps all the mud and water out of there as soon as I decide to take my rig off road!!?
