I have a set of " Selectro " lockouts on my dana 60 front. Are they worth keeping or am I looking for trouble ? Opinions ? Oh, I was told that my dana 60 came out of a chevy, did chevy also use Selectro lockouts ?

Right now when I lock them in for 4wd, To unluck them , I have to back up about 50' - 75' feet. which kinda stinks

GM never used the Selectro brand so they've definitely been added at some point. I know the external type Selectros (like for a Dodge) are weak but I don't have any experience with the internal type (Chevy & Ford).

As for having to back up, my guess would be drivetrain bind - are you locked front and rear? Most likely any brand of hubs will require back up or "unloading" of the drivetrain to some degree.

these are internal lockouts.

I have never had to back up before to unlock any other 4x4 I have owned, to be able to unlock the hubs. I was just thinking that either there is somthin wrong with these lockouts or its the way they were designed. I would like to change them, but if they are consider a good lockout, maybe they need to be cleaned up or used more often.

I am open front and rear.

Mike, get a set of Warn's. Call Doug at Extreme Axle Sales and get a used set.

I cant comment on the D60 version but I have the D44 internal version and I have a similar issue when unlocking them.

Limited slip in rear.
open front
203 transfer case converted to part time.

I can lock the hubs at any time with little effort.
Once the truck has been driven any amount of time in 4wd I can not unlock the hubs unless I drive the truck in 2wd for at least 200 feet.

Once the transfer case is unlocked and in 2wd I would think all "binding" in the system should be released.

In my case I actually had one of the hubs crack because the tire monkeys at the shop rested the tire (bone stock 27 inch tire so not crazy heavy) on the hub while lining up the lugs before pushing the tire on. they are really weak pot metal housings. I am changing over to the warn hubs and not looking back.

Cheers,
Rufus
