Dana 60 Springless Hardware???

I have his steering arms. I never did rebuild my kingpins but a washer cured me of all death wobble. If your kingpins need rebuilt, well they need rebuilt.

So I would say not a cure for death wobble if you have death wobble right now

I don't know, it got rid of my dealth wobble. I had him tap my OTT steering arm and bought a springless cap to go on the other side. It's great having the ability to adjust the preload without having to remove everything

The kingpin spring allows some kind of give on the upper joint. It was designed for ~30" tires so putting big tires on them can allow the spring to give more than its intended to and cause death wobble.

Some people increase the spring pressure by adding washers on top of the springs.

Eliminating the springs means that you eliminate any deflection on the upper joint. There are theoretical downsides to this idea but I don't think any of them are a big deal at all. Ditching the spring could certainly get rid of death wobble in some cases (though its not the only thing that causes it).

so hold on with that you dont need to rebuild the kingpins???is that all you need...its about 10 bucks cheaper a side...

I'm running his springless arm without the cap. I never had death wobble but I could flex up the tire by hand before I replaced the kingpins. As in 1" up and down or thereabouts. I replaced the passenger side kingpin bearing etc and added parts mikes spring eliminator arm... no unwanted motion and no problemo!:waytogo:

The "kingpin" itself is a cone shaped piece of steel that the upper part of the knuckle pivots on. Its rarely replaced and IMO unless it looks really bad shouldn't be replaced.

When people "rebuild" their kingpins that generally includes replacing the plastic bushing (which is toast on just about every used D60 out there) and the spring (which are usually ~1/2" shorter than they should be on used D60's). The rebuild I'm talking about is cheap and super easy and replaces parts that are rarely replaced on stock trucks.

twoslo: Actually getting to your question; You need special steering arms or special kingpin caps to use only shims and I would imagine you would need to mess with the shims a little to get everything to work right.

Since yours will be a trail only vehicle and you haven't purchased a steering arm(s?) yet I would probably go without the spring.

I "rebuilt" the kingpins on mine (new springs and bushings) without any washers and have never had any death wobble (though its likely my hydro assist keeps it from happening). I don't know if the spring ever affects the steering of the front axle but I guess I would prefer to run without the spring.

im not putting arms on mine seeing as how im going with a single ended ram for full hydro...still worth it??do i even need to rebuild them if im going full hydro??
