What are you all using for your Dana 60 studs/bolts where you hold the spring plate down? I notice there's kits out there for them with studs, but could I just use grad 8 bolts?

yes. I'm using some grade 8's I got from Fastenal, don't remember the length though.

Get the studs. Bolts wear the threads in the housing out and if they are even a little short WILL pull out. :doah: This happened to me on Trifecta @ BlazerBash this year. Thanks to some help from Russell and his bud Andrew we were able to drill and tap it to a larger size to get me back on the road for Pritchett the next day. Needless to say it's all about the full length studs from now on.

I've been using the factroy bolts since I installed my D60 about 8-9 years ago.

i live in the crusty rust belt.

no problems with longer grd 8 bolts in lots of dana 60's i have done lifts with.

just measure the length of old engagement and then make sure new will be same taking account of the thicker spring pack over stock.

Ditto x2... I'm running zero rates in front as well

Johns spring service. Thats also.where I get my ubolts. Make sure you know what size you need cuz he doesnt go by application and hes grumpy lol.

For what it's worth I prefer studs. The thing with studs is they are universal, so no matter what spring pack you use you will always have full thread engagement
and good clamping force on the spring.

With the spring plates being something that may be taken off a couple times or more you can eventually weaken the internal threads in the housing when bringing bolts to proper torque. When using studs the torque is evenly applied to all threads reducing the chance of pulling out threads.

It's all personal preference but I will use studs whenever possible. Caterpillar sells studs that a few of the Arizona guys use, due to pulling threads from the housing, not sure if they drilled out and tapped to a bigger size though.

5/8x11tpi is the stock size

Ha ha ha, Bocha is his name iirc, he is married to John's daughter, who is the real boss of the place. I worked across the street from him for three years at Reno Brake. He used to come in every now and then to buy stuff from us and would always joke and bs with the old guys I worked for, but everytime I had to go deliver stuff to him or talk to him by myself, he was back to being grumpy. I still go to him for u-bolts and such, but for other hardware, R&E fasteners has never done me wrong.

I originally used the studs that came in a kit from Superlift, but they both broke at different times within a year or two. Maybe they were faulty pieces, but have since ran grade 8 bolts of the proper length for many years with no issues.

Keep in mind that the threads in the housing are course, while most u-bolts are fine thread. The studs from Superlift had the course thread in the housing half and fine thread on the other half so the nuts were the same as the other u-bolts.
