I'm about to tear it down and rebuild it. The gears look almost brand new so I'm only going as far as the knuckles. Do I need in special tools?

make sure to pull the lockout or drive slug first .

older 60's used a 6 tab spindle nut newer models use a 4 tab spindle nut.

otherwise there easy to play with . I have done a few here and there over the years .

these days I search rockauto for my basic reman parts . . . . cheeper than master kits from others . and there Timken bearings and seals even . pm me if you need help finding parts .

hate to say it also . but if going down to shafts out and knuckles off it . . . . pop carrier out and do 2 new tube seals . drop carrier back in and be done . doing this will = no gear setup .

I also have found great prices on axle parts from rock auto. I just did a D44 with parts from them. I have a D60 front apart right now and am getting those parts from rock auto too.
If you have bad king pins you may also need a giant Allen wrench to get them out. It's either a 7/8" or 3/4", can't remember off the top of my head. Size should be easilly searched.
I agree on the inner tube seals, they aren't very hard and you are basically there all ready with the shafts out.

Thanks for the tips. I wasn't planning on pulling the shafts out, but it doesn't look like it's that difficult.
