Damn, what does one of these suckers weigh?

I've put zero rates under the rear of several trucks. Never had much trouble but man, this larger front axle's kicked my butt for the night. Got a friend coming over tomorrow with another floor jack and we should get it all together.

The front driveshaft separated when I was trying to move the axle the other day and now I can't wrestle it back in place by myself.:doah::tongue1:

Weight, fn heavy. I would guess 650, sure felt heavier than the 14ff pulling it around on the jack.

they are about 800 pds..hell my sf 14 bolt was heavy as hell, replaced the 10 bolts i could lift myself and im 130 pds

thats the first time ive ever heard them weighing 800 lbs. i think its around 600-650. ive heard that as the answer almost every time...

I installed mine minus the axleshafts and hubs and that way it is manageable by 1 person. I put new diff seals and u-joints in so it was apart anyway.

Damn, still heavy. I was pushing on it with my feet trying to get the shaft parts lined up and yeah...it scooted me right across the floor.

Big Ugly strikes back!

Awww, they're not that heavy. 'Course I'm 6'3" and 275, my friends accuse me of huntin' bear with a switch. Did I mention I'm the runt of the family?

Jimbo

I thought i could install the 60 myself, I tried to drag it over to the truck, and realized i needed to call some freinds :D I made sure i had some beer on tap.

I did mine myself. It took three floor jacks and it rolled off them twice. Real pain in the butt.

It was a PITA but my buddy and I got the driveshaft back together (damn that's a hard to see key) and the axle is now hanging happily from the springs...

...but I realized I didn't get the 4" wide u-bolt for the outer passenger side...got three the same size as the two on the driver's side.:doah: Gee, once again no one in this podunk, lost in the woods town has any u-bolts wider than 3.75"...

Gotta call around tomorrow and see who can make me one. So much for having it at the alignment shop tomorrow.

wrestling is right i just picked up a 14ff and a 60 from the same guy. They loaded them with a fork lift into the back of my truck. I had to get them out by myself. I teetered them off the back of the truck and pushed them over in the dirt. I think I busted both nuts. I was guessin 600, i was close. I feel your pain.

so i guess im not gona go to the junk yard and unbolt one and throw it over my shoulder n toss it in the bed of the truck! lol. Funny thing is i used to pickup brake axles from mobile homes and heave them on my shoulder and then throw them onto the stack at the lot off the trailer. now you would think that brake axles on an 50-80K trailer would out weight the front axle on a 4x4 chevy truck!
