I got one that i need to lug home but i need to make it lighter so i can carry it in the back of a s10 4cyl. I dont want to have to strip it down all the way and i am planing on making 2 trips because i got some other parts i need to grab
Whats the best way to do this and does anyone have any suggestions

An s10 should be able to carry a d60. I have hauled more than that in yotas and rangers with no problems.

If you do have to strip it, you may as well rebuild it while your at it.

I say take the complete knockle assemblies off so you end up with three parts of the axle.

well the s10 box is little rusty and i plan on rebuilding of the winter but i dont want to take it part and leave it in pieces and chance loosing parts yeah but i taking the knuckles and all the steering stuff off, How hard is it to take the knucles off with a basic hand tools and rust check. Its on the truck and thats all i have is a basic socket set and rust check.

I carried one in my S-10 Blazer. Keep it together, this way you won't loose any parts.

how far? i'd try it if it's not too far. my friend's 2001 s10 with the ZQ8 package can't haul ANYTHING. snapped a spring when he tried to take home his 5.3L v8. i stuck it in the back of my c1500 and barely knew it was there. if you have the regular suspension, you'll probably have a better chance than him.

its not so much the being a small truck its also underpowered and is high milage and its about 1 and half drive at 80km I think i will just take the knuckles of it for now just to be safe, The trip dont bother me because i gotta bring furniture out to a cabin my parents bought, and thats how i stumbled across them.

eh i still say together. my buddies s10 was a 1983 w/ a 4banger in it at 202,000miles... just a mess to get knuckles off w/ hand tools cuz rust suckss...

if that truck cant handle 300lbs in the back of it safetly that thing shouldnt be on the road.

at my work the truck i use is a 85 s10 that is a complete rust bucket. wooded bed and use it to transport barrels of oil. that thing will handle 3 barrels without any problems. im sure it would do more but not with me driving.

and have had 2200lbs in the back of a ranger before.

Your truck should handle it to...i was gonna say Canada but seeing as how you live there i'll say California. If not i'd suggest a different truck :D

I will give it a try, Im trying not to kill my winter beater , I would use my 84 full size but its pretty much in the process of being stripped down

it will haul it no problem. hell i had 15 people in the back and 5 in the front of mine at one time. yeah we were going rolling yards and we all jumped in my truck and took off.

Heavier things have been put in smaller trucks.
Go for it.
