dana 70 srw brake drum swap

You probably need to check the drum I.D.'s and depth and make sure they match. I'm gonn guess, no, they wont interchange, but that's only a guess.
What year model are you talking about ?
If it is for the 1973 on up solid axle trucks than it should be a DRW H.D. 70 not a SRW version.
If the D70 is from a GM truck than the brakes should interchange as long as they are of the same brake option like J*** for certain chassis.
Can you post a pic up so that it can be identified? Or check the B.O.M. # to make sure you have a GM version.

That might very well be out of a 1988 on up IFS truck . They did come with SRW D70-3's.
I don't have much info on the brakes on those axles but if GM did business as usual the same model type 14FF should work. Beware of how the drums are retained - some come with slide on drums and others come with the drum retained by the wheel studs/hub.

the only info that i could get on it was it was out of a chevy 1 ton truck. the drums are 1.5" skinnier than the 14bff. the wms is about 64.5" i have not pulled it apart yet but was curious if this swap is possible. the drum mounting plates are the same width.
Why do you want/need to swap thedrums over? The D70 drums shot?
Hmmm, I don't think that swapping drums will change the WMS. That, I believe, would be determined by the hubs. Now, I'm not sure, but I think I read once on this site, that the whole hub assy. could be swapped from the 14 to the 70. Someone elso might have some better info. Do a search for D70 and pore through the posts, I think you might find the ifo you're looking for, might take a lot of reading....
There are lots of SRW D70's , but not from GM. I got mine out of a Ford.

Got a 97 k2500 w/ a D70. Brake drums were shot. Could not find drums ANYWHERE. Ended up trying the corporate 14 bolt drums for the same year. They fit, but the back of the drum(where it hits the backing plate) needs to be machined or clearanced about 3/8" to clear the backing plate. Its more work, but you can install 14 bolt backing plates or grind the lip off the d70 plates to clear the drum as well. I went through all this work only to find the drum would not work w/ out the clearance needed. Any one else run into this????
