Dana 70?

I was pretty much given a d70 and not sure what it is out of but I popped the cover off today and one of the spider gears fell out on the ground. So upon further inspection I noticed that the pin was broke, carrier is cracked, and the driver side cap is broke.

So would this even be worth messing with or pull the shafts, hubs, and junk the rest?

One piece or two piece carrier?

You could throw a locker in it and go if the ring and pinion are ok.

Bearing cap? If so, junk. These are like main bearing caps in an engine, major machine work to fit another in it's place.

D70 2 piece carriers = cheaper Detroits like a 14 bolt.

The carrier bearing cap is cracked id say junk it. The caps are line bored in the housing and can not be swapped around just as a engine main bearing should not be swapped around. By the sounds of it though there really aint much left except for shafts and hubs.

One piece carrier, the ring gear looked to have some chips in the teeth but I was looking at it with it laying on the ground so I couldn't really tell everything but will find out more on it when I get it to the house.

I figured it was probably junk, good thing I only gave $25 dollars for it.

Sounds like someone is giving it to you, so they don't have to deal with getting rid of it

Yup bearing cap, was broke at the bolt and bent out.

Where the pin goes through the carrier is broke and wallowed(sp) out.

Was laying on the ground at a junk yard that was having everything scrapped, 2 trucks got scrapped with d60 front's and 3 or 4 dually trucks where scrapped. I didn't have the money to buy them.
