I got a Dana 70 S, says right on the tag, but there isn't a BOM number, only serial number and broadcast something. It's a 35 spline, like to find out what carriers will fit it. Randy's dont even list it, so can't compare anything. I'll post a pic in a minute, it's on my phone.

A buddy of mine has a Detroit in his super 70. I believe he said used a high speed 3 series case and some thick 4.56.

Found this

I wanna keep the 3.73s in it , just want to add a posi of some sort. I know there a bunch of variations of it.....

I wonder if you can use a Dana 80 4.10 and up 2.25 deck carrier like you can in the HD cases. That would open up a ton of options.

Sounds like a can of worms lol. Guess I’ll just run it n do more homework on it. Thanks!

Pretty sure the only non open differential that fits without messing with the axles is a special tracloc that is made for them.

I think they used Govloks too. Which I'd be fine with, this ain't gonna be a wheeler, but more of a driver and tow pig. (and to look cool, low SAS and Cummins/NV4500 lol)

As far as I know there are no Gov-Locs in use outside of GM/AAM axles.

OBIJUAN’s suggestion on using the various ratio/speed carriers in the odd pinion offset D70-S housings will work.

Choices range from D70-HD No-Spins or Powr-Lok’s or even the Super 70 4-pinion split-case Trac-Loks - you can even use D70-B & U series carriers if you are willing to machine the case halves on the bearing journals to allow for the .125” wider and larger diameter bearing that the Super & HD carriers and housings use.
With the D70-S housing roller carrier spacing adjusters. ( like a 14B FF, 9” or Toyotas ) and the various ring gear flange positions of the different carriers you will have a large area of side to side adjustment available.
The D80 Detroits, Power-Loks and Trac-Loks ( among all the aftermarket choices for 70’s & 80’s ) can be used if you install sleeves for the smaller 70 carrier ring gear bolts - or go through the expense of redrilling the ring gear to .562 x 18 instead of 1/2” x 20.

You got plenty of very good L/S and locker options to choose from.

The Super 70 has 9/16” offset spider gears. When you install a regular Dana 70 locker, it makes the long side axle too long and the short side axle too short.

What carrier series was used on that axle build ?
I’m not doubting that at all but just wondering if the right combo of carrier split v/s the housings pinion offset with the roller adjusters may help in the axle spline to side gear marriage dimensions.

Shaft mods might be needed in some cases but we did not have to do it on the D70-S we put a D/L in.
IIRC the housing we used was out of a SRW Van with disc brakes ( don’t know what year but I assumed it was around a 2010 or so ? ) that came with a open 3.73 and changed to a 4.11 D/L with 35-spline axles.

It was an ARB. It was is the Dana 70 bible on the old Pirate site. Post #645 by Jolane.

On CK5, @85k5witha6.2 was putting a Detroit Locker in his.
Starts around post # 184. I think they both used a Dana 70HD carrier.

sounds like the easiest is a locker supplied by Lincoln lol
Crude but effective - my first attempt at extra traction was busting out the ole Lincoln 225 on my ‘79 FJ40 back in 1989 and after that I bit the bullet and paid $450 ( in the early 90’s prices ) for a D/L in my ‘83 K-3500 D70-HD and never welded up another differential.
Driving a totally locked up rear diff on the street just wears them tires out too quickly.

Good luck with whatever ya decide to do !

Coming back to this, I talked to the guy who has this axle and he said all he did was toss the Detroit in it and send it. Nothing special.
