Dash gear pointer thingy

So the other day I was backing out of the driveway and when I shifted into OD, the orange pointer just fell over lol. It appeared to snap more tham fall like it was under tension.

I guess my question is how in the world do I fix that? I hate to tear into the dash to find out that it didn't need to be that extensive.

There is a small wire that connects the pointer to the column collar. They break and you just get a new one. Classic Parts, Classic Industries, Brothers, etc. all have them. Price shop since they all appear to be the same.You'll have to pull your gauge console if I remember right but it's a 20-30 minute job. Not hard at all.You Tube it. Some of the manufacturers have videos showing the replacement.Good luck!

It's a simple gizmo. The clip goes on the rotating portion of the lower column. You adjust it's position until the needle lines up with the gear you're in. You only have to pull the front dash bezel off to access it. It's possible the clip just came off. Post up what you find and somebody here may have the piece. You have to take off at least that main cluster panel with Phillips head screws, you'll be able to see the rest once the main panel is off.

I like it better without needle. Chevy truck columns just snap down into gear, you don't have to look at anything


try driving without the needle for a few weeks and let us know what you think
