I`m half way through installing my new dash I got from Classic Industries. I got the clips on the underside, start putting it on, but it doesn`t seem to be clipping in all the way. When I pull the front of the dash down to line up the holes for the screws (see retainer nuts in dash), the top of the dash pulls back out.

What am I doing wrong?

Any chance I could get some pics of your dashes? Particularly the clips on the underside, and the corners near the doors.

I just had a loose dash lying around a week or so ago, but it went to the scrap yard so I'm not help. :o

Looks like an older dash and a newer pad . When I did newer pad onto older dash ( truggy I started then sold ) , a couple clips needed to be removed since there was no hole for them . The older dashes and pads also sloped down more . I had to start the lower row of screws and rock the dashpad up and back . Never quite fit right , and I had to run screws into the side of the pad into the dash sides :doah:

Well, I double checked, it. Dash is for 81-87, trucks an 82

In that case return it , and try another vendor . Perhaps someone didn't pay attention to the mesaurements of the newer rigs .
Ugh. I HATE dealing with returning stuff. Do I have the clips all the way on? It doesn`t seem like the dash is all the way on....

If I could easily fab something up, I would LOVE to do that. Would make mounting the gauges/switches ALOT easier.

I am going to be building a rollcage and instead of trying to go through the stock dash, ill build a custom dash around the rollcage. plus I can put any guage where I want it and same with switches, c.d. player, c.b., locking glove box. im also putting a mojave style summit heater in.

no roll cage here, so its a lost cause i guess....

ttt! Am I missing something here? Are the clips supposed to go in farther?

thats your prob, the clip aren't in far enough.. maybe you could straighten out the bent tab at the end, so it catches better... it'll be more difficult to get in.. might need someone pushing down and in on the dash, while you make sure they are catching down below..

or possible notch the new dash so the clips sit further in...

that`s what I wanted to hear, I thought that might be the case, but I didn`t want to keep pushing on the dash if it wasn`t going to go anywhere..not sure I understand about notching the dash. Here`s a pic with the clips in:

They look like they're seated right in that last pic, they're kind of a pain to get them in right. IIRC on my Suburban I had to bend them a little bit like Ryoken said, it makes them a bit harder to install but it fits much better that way.
