Dash lighting K5 blazer

Hmm. I have never had a problem with dash lights other than the occasional burnt out bulb. I turn them down on nighttime road trips so as not to mess with my night vision.

I do the same thing. Not sure how people drive around with their faces lit up like they have their phone 2" from it.

When I did the LED's I "fixed" the brightness at the lowest level that still allowed me to see them at night. IMO the stock cluster just needs some help in better illuminating the gauges in a few spots, the attempt with the paint is to spread the light onto the face of the gauges better than was done stock. In my case at least, it wasn't just to brighten the whole thing up.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! And yea, I think it is personal preference, I have one bulb out, but I am the type of person to run with the dimmer all the way up in all of my vehicles. I dont like struggling to see, I need the light. Bad eyes maybe.

I keep seeing the chrome spray paint mod, and hear gloss white is also good. Is there a write up that I am missing? Cant seem to find it and I have been searching. Any help would be much appreciated!
Well remove the cluster take the covers off and remove the gauges, the metal clips, printed circuit off the back and then spray the lt blue buckets silver chrome and the lt blue back side of the black reflector cove. Make sure you mask off the black side or you will have to paint that black again.

Is there a reference to which LED bulbs I need for dash? Is there a kit or individual replacement brand? Any recommended kits available or any will do with same results? I’ve got an 85 K5

I'm not aware of any kit, but on ebay the bulbs are generally listed as T10's, although they are really 194 or 168's, depending on the position on the cluster. Some positions used the brighter bulbs. I want to say 168 is the brighter one.

Anyway, here is an example of the ebay T10's available. I think that's too much, but you can google search (or ebay) for "T10 LED white" and you will be inundated with results.

Few things: LED's often don't work well with our dimmers. They are also generally much brighter than the stock bulbs, and can lead to ridiculous amounts of light at night. It is way too much for me, thus I had to dim them. Also, the cluster connectors are kind of hokey, just replacing the bulbs may not eliminate all problems.
