Ok on my 87 k5 i was driving to work this morning and poof my dash lights went out  . So i got to work and went to replace the fuse and noticed that the po has a 30 amp fuse in there . What size fuse is supposed to be in there and is the dash lights the only thing on this fuse ? Thanks Denny

Dash lights are often hooked up to tail lights, so if your tails go out, you know about it.

Check your taillight wiring. Also check where teh trailer harness T's into the system behind the hitch. Check bulbs, etc. I'd bet your tails are out too.

If I am not mistaken, is it on the same circuit as the cigarette lighter? If it is, check the element. I had that problem, every time I pushed in the lighter, I blew a fuse. I replaced the element and all is good.

Pretty sure the dash lights come from the headlight switch and those are notorious for going bad and losing dash and tail lights.

Another common place to check, that may not apply to you, is if there is an aftermarket stereo. Many times people leave the dimmer wire hanging loose and it can short and cause this issue. Sometimes the big fuse will prevent it from blowing right away, and it is common to see them do that rather than find the cause.

Yes there is a aftermarket radio in there I will have to check that out. Alot of things that the po did are not even close to being safe or ok in my book. Like the wires for the fuel pump just twisted together and wrapped in duct tape :doah:
