what is the dash made of, vinyl or a plastic? how do i prep the dash pad for this colorcoat?
has anyone used it before? how long can i expect it to last? does it go on thick or will i still be able to see the nice factory texture?

i want it to look as OEM as possible.

BIG thanks, and if its slightly different color, can i use it the same way to match the door panels?

one word, well ok 2.. denatured alcohol.... many many times..... I start with 2 or 3 damp towel/dry towelings... soaked wad of paper towels, wash it down thoroughly, then dry it off with a dry wad... a key to this is to try and be wiping off the wet areas with the dry towels.. not after it's dry.. gotta work quick, denatured is fast...

once i do that a couple times.... i use a maroon 3M scuffpad on it to take the shine down... then I do 2 more denatured washes.... ready for coating... it goes on like a relatively thin paint.... I generally do at least 3 coats, other colors may vary... and yes, the pebble grain looks fine...

the SEM works damn good on dashpads, holds up very well.... well, the black anyway... all my interiors are always black...

nice score btw, looks like a perfect one.... i have a perfect tan 77 in the attic i'm gonna SEM black and sell... the one in my 87 is HAMMERED.. sad thing is, i'll get a perfect one, and cut it up for the cage, heat stuff, then dye it... :doah: :wink1:

sounds like something i can handle. thanks alot, the heat and sun just bake the trucks and ruin the plastics. gauge needles in the truck just up and broke off!
the red one is AMAZING. too bad its red....
that is the one i am going to have to paint.

you got any good products to keep it nice and clean and protected?

Maybe a cover of some sort? I would hate to cover up such a prestige condition dash pad but anything to keep it that way i guess.

i usually just use 303 protectant occasionally, mainly cuz i have tons of it from work.. back when I ran the detailing company we used to use this stuff called "Prime".. hands down the best product I've used for leather, vinyl, tires, etc.....

So you recommend 303 eh?

I've been so leary of those types of products due to ArmorAll I've pretty much stopped using them on the dashboards.
