ok so i tried plugging in my cable to my laptop and nothing showed up in winaldl. if you accidentally leave the computer in daignostic mode while its running can it mess up the comp?
the cable worked before (it is home made) so I am not sure why its not working now?
anything i should know?

on a side note truck has been running better since i put on the headers and heated O2 sensor. I think I had some vacuum leaks with the exhaust manifolds before.

and my check engine light also does not come on anymore which is good. still running a little rich but i need to put in my new distributor and re time it.

one thing i did notice when it is running and i keep the rpms higher it has some backfiring/popping out of the headers? any idea on that?
i still dont have an exhaust hooked up either.

thanks guys! i am stoked about getting this thing on the road, now i just have to figure out how much i am going to get screwed when i go and re-register it :doah:

nothing? i think i may need to take my cable apart and see if a solder broke or something

Just in case anyone is interested i found out my cable was broken. Built a new one today but Idont believe my laptop will power it off the rs232 so I am going to use the cig lighter plug in and try that after work. Wish me luck!

Dont want to spend that when I am going to have to cut it anyway, but thanks

Id have to cut the OBD side, cuz I dont have a OBD plug in my truck

I would install the ALDL plug before i bought and cut a cable up. Just hit the wrecking yard and cut one out of a truck and wire it into yours. This is definately the way to go since if you ever want the ability to have a shop hook their scanner up they aren't about to cut their cable for you.
